Hip lipolysis is a modern, non-surgical aesthetic treatment that targets localised fat on the hips and outer thighs (saddlebags) that stubbornly resists diet and exercise. It was developed for people – especially women, whose bodies are prone to storing fat in this area for genetic and hormonal reasons – who want to correct disproportion and achieve a smoother, more balanced body contour.
It is based on lipolysis, the breakdown of fat cells. Proven active ingredients are injected directly into the problem area, dissolving fat cell membranes so that their contents are removed through the body’s natural lymphatic system. For people who want to avoid surgery with a long recovery, hip lipolysis offers a practical option, and many find that a more balanced silhouette helps them feel more confident in their clothes. At our clinic in Beşiktaş, Istanbul, each treatment is planned individually.
The Art of Body Contouring: Why Is the Hip Area So Resistant?
Understanding why the hips and outer thighs resist weight loss shows why targeted treatment can help. It is not simply a matter of “eat less, move more”. In women, oestrogen encourages fat cells (adipocytes) to be stored in the lower body – hips, thighs and saddlebags – as a biological energy reserve for pregnancy. Fat cells in these areas are richer in alpha-2 adrenergic receptors, which slow down fat breakdown, whereas fat cells in other areas, such as the abdomen, are richer in beta receptors that encourage it. This explains why fat may be lost more easily from the abdomen while stubborn hip fat remains.
This can be frustrating for people who reach their ideal weight but still have a disproportionate shape despite years of diet and exercise. Hip lipolysis directly targets these resistant fat cells, creating local slimming and shaping rather than general weight loss.
Hip Lipolysis
Hip lipolysis is an injection-based lipolysis method designed specifically to reduce fat deposits in the hip and saddlebag area. Because it requires no incision, general anaesthesia or long recovery, it is an attractive body-contouring option for busy modern lives.
How It Works: Breaking Down Fat Cells Step by Step
The treatment is based on a combination of phosphatidylcholine (PPC), obtained from soya lecithin, and deoxycholate, a bile acid derivative, injected under sterile conditions with very fine needles directly into the fat of the hip area. They have a dual effect on fat cells:
- Deoxycholate acts like a detergent, destabilising and breaking down fat cell membranes – a process known as adipocyte cytolysis.
- Phosphatidylcholine then emulsifies the released triglycerides into smaller particles, making them much easier for the body to transport and metabolise.
The broken-down, emulsified fat is collected by the lymphatic system and carried to the liver, where it is processed by normal metabolism – partly used for energy and the rest eliminated. Because fat cells are destroyed rather than simply shrunk, and do not regenerate, results in the treated area are long-lasting as long as a healthy lifestyle is maintained.
A Personalised Approach in Beşiktaş, Istanbul
Choosing a procedure that will change your body contour is a big step, and the physician’s experience and approach matter as much as the treatment itself. At the first consultation, I listen to your goals, expectations and any concerns, learn about your lifestyle and how the fat in this area affects you, and examine the thickness of the fat and the quality of your skin.
Every body is unique, and every hip area needs a different approach. I plan the injection points, the amount of product and the session intervals according to your anatomy, the resistance of your fat and your metabolism, so that results are both natural and as effective as possible. Each step is explained clearly and your questions are answered patiently. The treatment is carried out in a clinical setting with high hygiene standards and quality products; please note that the use of these solutions on the body may be off-label in some countries, and I will discuss the products used with you.
As with other lipolysis treatments, temporary swelling, tenderness, bruising and small firm lumps under the skin are common after sessions and settle over days to weeks. Several sessions a few weeks apart are usually needed, with results appearing gradually over the weeks following each session. Afterwards, I offer personalised nutrition and lifestyle advice to help you maintain the result. Lipolysis is a body-contouring treatment, not a weight-loss method, and results vary between individuals.
