Inner thigh lipolysis is an innovative, non-surgical treatment designed to reduce stubborn, localised fat on the inner thighs – fat that can cause both aesthetic concerns and practical discomfort, such as the thighs rubbing together. Many people find that however much they diet or train their legs, this fat does not shift, making clothing choices difficult and causing irritation and discomfort when walking.
The treatment is based on lipolysis – targeted breakdown of fat cells. It suits people who want shapelier, more proportionate and, above all, more comfortable legs that do not rub together, without the risks and long recovery of surgery. Because it is done in short sessions without time off, it fits easily into a busy life, and many find it improves their freedom of movement and confidence. At our clinic in Beşiktaş, Istanbul, each treatment is planned individually.
A Functional and Aesthetic Problem: Why Is Inner Thigh Fat So Common?
Inner thigh fat is a common concern for both women and men and often causes practical problems. The body is genetically programmed to store fat in certain areas, and the inner thigh is one of them. In women especially, oestrogen encourages fat storage on the hips, saddlebags and inner thighs, which explains why even disciplined diet and exercise may not slim this area.
The most troublesome practical consequence is chafing. When the thighs constantly rub together while walking, running or during everyday activity, the skin can become red, irritated and sore, and over time may darken (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation). This can make wearing skirts or shorts in summer uncomfortable and limit clothing choices. Inner thigh lipolysis is not a general weight-loss method; it focuses on the stubborn fat in this specific area, aiming both for a more attractive leg contour and to reduce the rubbing that causes discomfort.
Inner Thigh Lipolysis
Inner thigh lipolysis is a non-surgical lipolysis technique developed to dissolve fat on the inner thighs, as an alternative to liposuction with its general anaesthesia, incisions, stitches and long recovery. The aim is not only to slim the legs but also to create a healthy gap between the thighs, offering both aesthetic satisfaction and physical comfort.
How It Works: Phosphatidylcholine and Deoxycholate
The treatment is based on evidence-based biochemistry. At its centre are phosphatidylcholine (PPC), a natural substance derived from soya lecithin, and deoxycholate, a bile salt also found naturally in the body, mixed in specific proportions. The solution is injected with very fine mesotherapy needles into the fat of the inner thigh at pre-planned points.
Deoxycholate acts like a detergent, disrupting and breaking down the double-layered membrane of fat cells (cytolysis). When the membrane loses its integrity, the stored fat (triglycerides) flows out, and PPC surrounds these large, sticky fat molecules, breaking them into much smaller particles (emulsification) that the lymphatic system can transport and the body can metabolise more efficiently. The fat is carried to the liver, where part is used for energy and the rest is eliminated. Because fat cells are destroyed, not just emptied, and the number of fat cells in the treated area falls, results are long-lasting as long as you maintain your weight.
A Personalised Plan in Beşiktaş, Istanbul
Every person’s anatomy, fat structure, skin elasticity and expectations are different, so a one-size-fits-all approach does not give natural, satisfying results. At the first consultation I ask how long you have had the problem, how much the chafing affects your daily life, what you have tried before and what you hope to achieve – for example, simply that your thighs no longer touch, or a more defined gap between them. I then assess the thickness and distribution of the fat and your skin quality, since in some cases there is also some skin laxity; correct diagnosis keeps expectations realistic.
A personal protocol then sets out the number of sessions and intervals, how much product is injected in which areas and at what depth, aiming for the most effective reduction and a smooth, natural leg contour. As with other lipolysis treatments, temporary swelling, tenderness, bruising and small firm lumps are common after sessions and settle over days to weeks, and results appear gradually. You are kept fully informed at every step. Results vary between individuals, and the use of these solutions on the body may be off-label in some countries; I will discuss the products used with you.
