Spider web mesotherapy is an innovative combined treatment that aims to restore the elasticity and vitality the skin loses over time. It brings together two techniques: dissolvable medical threads (PDO – polydioxanone) placed beneath the skin in a web-like pattern, and mesotherapy, in which nourishing cocktails of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and hyaluronic acid are delivered by micro-injections. The threads give mechanical support for an immediate toning and lifting effect, while both components stimulate the skin’s own repair mechanisms and collagen production for longer-term rejuvenation.
At our clinic in Beşiktaş, Istanbul, I design each spider web mesotherapy treatment around the patient’s individual needs and skin structure. The aim is not a temporary external improvement but to bring out the skin’s own capacity to renew itself and gently but firmly turn back the signs of time.
What Is Spider Web Mesotherapy?
It is a holistic rejuvenation protocol combining “spider web” thread aesthetics (PDO thread lifting) and mesotherapy in a single session, acting on different layers of the skin at once.
The spider web technique places fully biocompatible, gradually dissolving polydioxanone (PDO) threads beneath the skin with special fine needles, without surgery, following a planned, web-like geometry. It has two effects. First, an immediate mechanical lift: the threads gently pull loose, sagging tissue upwards for a firmer, more toned look. Second, and perhaps more important, biological stimulation: the body recognises the threads as foreign and starts a controlled healing reaction around them, stimulating fibroblasts to produce new collagen and elastin. As the threads dissolve, the new connective tissue network around them continues to strengthen the skin’s supporting framework, so the effect can last for many months. The technique is therefore not only a lift but a biological stimulus for self-repair.
Mesotherapy injects nourishing cocktails, prepared for your skin’s current needs, into the middle layer of the skin with very fine needles. They usually contain hyaluronic acid, vitamins (A, C, E, B complex), minerals, antioxidants, amino acids and growth factors. Delivered directly to the target tissue, they increase hydration, relieve dullness, soften fine lines, help limit pigmentation and give a healthy radiance.
Combining the two creates synergy: the micro-channels and healing environment created by the threads increase the absorption and effectiveness of the mesotherapy, while mesotherapy’s nutrient support makes the collagen production triggered by the threads more efficient. Both the “columns” (collagen and elastin) and the “bricks” (cells) of the skin are strengthened – a comprehensive, non-surgical option for people dealing with several concerns at once, such as sagging, loss of elasticity, fine lines, dullness and a tired look.
Why Are Threads and Mesotherapy Stronger Together?
Skin ageing has more than one cause: the skin loses structural support and its cellular functions slow down. An effective treatment should address both – like instruments in an orchestra that sound richer together.
Structural support from the threads: PDO threads act like supporting columns added to a weakening building, immediately lifting skin and soft tissue pulled down by gravity. This gives a visible improvement for sagging cheeks, a blurred jawline and laxity under the chin. The long-term success comes from the body’s biological response – new collagen and elastin that rebuild the skin’s natural framework and counter the collagen breakdown accelerated by pollution, free radicals and sun.
Cellular nourishment from mesotherapy: however well the structure is supported, skin whose cells are poorly nourished, dehydrated and metabolically slow will still look pale and dull. Cocktails prepared for your skin deliver vitamins, antioxidants and hyaluronic acid – a “moisture magnet” – to the mesoderm, increasing water-holding capacity and radiance, neutralising free-radical damage and providing amino acids for new collagen.
Where the two meet, the micro-trauma and healing process around the threads increases circulation, so the nutrients from mesotherapy are used more efficiently, and collagen synthesis around the threads proceeds more strongly with that amino acid and vitamin support. In short, mesotherapy supplies the best materials for the construction the threads begin. The result is a 360-degree anti-ageing strategy that targets both the “form” and the “content” of the skin.
Step by Step: The Treatment Process
Consultation: A Personal Treatment Plan
I first listen to your concerns, expectations and goals, then analyse your skin’s structure, elasticity, degree of sagging, fat distribution and general health, together with your skin history and lifestyle. If you are a suitable candidate, I create a plan suited to your facial anatomy and proportions: which areas, how many and which type of PDO threads, in which vectors (directions) they will be placed, and which ingredients your mesotherapy cocktail will contain. Every detail is explained openly and all your questions are answered.
The Procedure: Where Art Meets Science
On the day, the area is thoroughly cleaned with an antiseptic and a local anaesthetic cream is applied for about 20–30 minutes to minimise discomfort. PDO threads are then placed beneath the skin through very fine needles or blunt cannulas at the planned points, woven with precision like a web to give the desired lift and support – work that requires detailed anatomical knowledge and aesthetic foresight. Next, the personalised mesotherapy cocktail is gently injected into the mesoderm with very fine needles, usually across the whole treated area. The whole procedure takes about 45–60 minutes, and I stay in constant communication with you throughout. You can usually return to daily life straight away.
Recovery and Results
Recovery is minimal. Mild redness, swelling or occasionally small bruises are normal and temporary and usually fade within a few days. Aftercare typically includes not getting the area wet for the first 24 hours and avoiding very hot environments (hammam, sauna), intense exercise and vigorous facial massage for a while.
Results appear in two stages. Immediately, the threads’ mechanical lift gives a visible toning and tightening. The main, long-term results develop gradually over weeks and months: after about 3–4 weeks collagen production around the threads accelerates and the skin feels firmer, fuller, smoother and livelier, while mesotherapy increases hydration and radiance and softens fine lines. The maximum effect is usually seen after 2–3 months and, depending on skin structure, age and lifestyle, may last around 1.5 to 2 years; even after the threads dissolve, the new collagen network continues to support the skin. Results vary between individuals, and I follow up with check-ups to help you reach the best result.
