Anti-Ageing Mesotherapy

Anti-ageing mesotherapy is an effective, highly customisable aesthetic treatment that slows the visible effects of ageing, restores lost vitality and gives a younger, fresher look. Valuable ingredients the skin needs – vitamins, minerals, amino acids, hyaluronic acid and antioxidants – are injected through very fine needles directly into the middle layer of the skin (dermis).

It acts on deeper layers that creams and serums cannot reach, stimulating repair and renewal at a cellular level. Like a serum delivered exactly where it is needed, it increases collagen and elastin production, improves hydration and makes the skin more resistant to free-radical damage. At our clinic in Beşiktaş, Istanbul, I believe every skin has unique needs, so instead of a standard approach I analyse each patient’s skin in detail and prepare personalised “cocktails”.

Nourishing the Skin: Why Inject Beneath the Surface?

To stay healthy and young, the skin needs constant nourishment, hydration and protection. We use creams, serums and lotions every day, but their effect is limited by the protective barrier of the epidermis, the outermost layer. This sophisticated barrier keeps out bacteria, toxins and UV rays, but it also prevents many valuable molecules in skincare from reaching the deeper layers where they are needed.

The skin’s real centre of vitality is the dermis beneath. It contains collagen, which gives firmness and structure; elastin fibres, which give elasticity; and hyaluronic acid molecules, which hold moisture – all produced by fibroblasts. Ageing, sun damage and environmental factors slow fibroblasts down, so these structures decline and the skin thins, dries, sags and wrinkles.

Anti-ageing mesotherapy bypasses the barrier and delivers revitalising, repairing ingredients directly to the dermis – like feeding a plant at its roots rather than watering its leaves. This direct nourishment triggers several positive processes at once:

  • It stimulates fibroblasts: amino acids and peptides signal them to increase production of new collagen and elastin, so the skin becomes firmer and more elastic over time.
  • It hydrates intensively: pure hyaluronic acid increases the skin’s water-holding capacity immediately, adding plumpness and radiance.
  • It provides antioxidant protection: vitamins C and E and glutathione help protect the skin from cellular damage caused by free radicals.
  • It improves circulation: the injections and certain ingredients increase microcirculation for better oxygenation and nourishment.

Anti-Ageing Mesotherapy

The name comes from “mesoderm” (middle skin) and “therapy”, and the idea is to treat the problem directly where it is. Ingredients are delivered at high concentrations straight to the target tissue without entering the bloodstream, for maximum benefit and minimum side effects. Its greatest strength is personalisation: some skins tend towards dehydration, others towards loss of elasticity, pigmentation or dullness, so a combination is prepared according to your age, skin type and concerns. Ingredients may include:

  • Hyaluronic acid: the cornerstone of almost every cocktail, giving instant hydration, plumpness and radiance and helping smooth fine dehydration lines.
  • Vitamins: vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant that stimulates collagen and helps brighten spots; vitamin A (retinol), which regulates cell renewal and improves tone and texture; vitamin E, which hydrates and protects; and B vitamins, essential to the skin’s metabolism.
  • Minerals: zinc, selenium, copper and silicon play key roles in enzyme reactions and antioxidant defences; silicon in particular strengthens collagen and elastin fibres.
  • Amino acids such as arginine, proline and glycine, the building blocks of collagen and elastin.
  • Peptides: smart molecules that carry repair and renewal signals, mimicking growth factors or preventing collagen breakdown.
  • Coenzymes and nucleic acids, which increase cellular energy and regulate protein synthesis.
  • Salmon DNA (PDRN): polynucleotides that support the repair and restructuring of damaged cells.

The Procedure and Session Plan

It begins with a physician consultation and detailed skin analysis: hydration and oil levels, elasticity, pores, depth of lines and pigmentation, together with your lifestyle, diet, sun exposure and health history. A personalised cocktail is then formulated and the goals, number of sessions and intervals agreed.

On the day, the skin is cleansed and a local anaesthetic cream applied for about 20–30 minutes, then wiped with an antiseptic. The cocktail is injected into the dermis with very fine, short needles (usually 4 mm long, 30–32G), as tiny points about 1–2 cm apart (“point by point” technique). Alternatively, the “nappage” technique creates many very superficial micro-scratches through which the product is absorbed. It usually takes 15 to 20 minutes. Slight redness and small papules are normal and usually disappear within a few hours, and you can return to daily life straight away.

  • Initial course: usually 4–6 sessions, 1 to 4 weeks apart, to saturate the skin with nutrients and strongly stimulate collagen production.
  • Maintenance: a single session every 3 to 6 months to preserve the results.
Who Is It For and What Results Can You Expect?

Anti-ageing mesotherapy suits people of almost any age and skin type who want better skin quality and natural rejuvenation without surgery. Ideal candidates include:

  • People noticing the first signs of ageing in their late twenties and early thirties – an excellent preventive treatment.
  • Dull, tired skin affected by smoking, stress, lack of sleep, a busy life or the environment.
  • Dry, dehydrated skin, thanks to the concentrated hyaluronic acid.
  • Fine lines and mild wrinkles around the eyes, forehead and mouth.
  • Uneven tone and superficial spots, helped by brightening, antioxidant ingredients such as vitamin C.
  • Loss of elasticity and mild laxity.

It is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, for people with bleeding disorders or active autoimmune disease, for those allergic to its ingredients, or where there is an active infection or open wound in the area.

Results build up cumulatively; this is a biological improvement in skin quality, not an instant volume effect like filler. After the first session the skin usually looks brighter, more hydrated and more rested. During the course (after 2–3 sessions) collagen production increases, the skin feels firmer and more elastic and fine lines begin to soften. After the course the effects continue to settle over the following weeks and months, with better overall quality, elasticity and a more even, brighter tone. Effects usually last for months, and maintenance sessions every 3–6 months help preserve them. Results vary from person to person.
