Biostimulators (Liquid Facelift)
Also known as hybrid treatment or the liquid facelift, biostimulators aim to restore the volume, firmness and vitality the skin loses over time in a natural way. Because they are most often used on the face, they are also referred to as a non-surgical facelift.
Three different molecules are used in this treatment. Products containing PLLA (poly-L-lactic acid), PCL (polycaprolactone) and CaHA (calcium hydroxylapatite) are placed beneath the skin. For skin that needs more intensive treatment, products combined with low cross-linked hyaluronic acid may also be used.
As these products are gradually broken down within the tissue, the skin’s production of fibrin and collagen accelerates. As a result, skin tension increases, sagging improves and hollows are filled. Because the treatment stimulates the skin’s own collagen, no excessive swelling or overfilling is expected in the treated area, and the result looks very natural.
The wide range of treatment areas is one of its advantages. Biostimulators can be used on the face, neck, décolletage and the backs of the hands, and are increasingly used to reduce the orange-peel appearance of cellulite and to firm the inner thighs, the area above the knees, the elbows and lax skin on the underside of the upper arms.
The treatment is performed with cannulas through a few small entry points, so you can return to daily life right away. Possible side effects include facial oedema or swelling and mild puffiness under the eyes. Bruising may occasionally occur at the entry points or along the cannula path. Results start to appear from around 6 weeks, peak at about 3 months and can last approximately 1.5–2 years. Although it is usually performed once a year, for people with significant skin laxity, repeating the treatment after a check-up at 3 months gives better results.
